Protect Our Community
The Issue
The building of six 2-storey, 3-bedroom homes with parking at the former council depot at the rear of 55-57 Petersfield Avenue in Harold Hill raises significant concerns for local residents. This development poses a direct threat to our privacy, leading to overcrowding in our neighbourhood. The construction will negatively affect residents' access to their private garages as the access road from Petersfield Avenue is already narrow. Allowing only one vehicle to pass at a time. Moreover, the increase in traffic will lead to heightened noise levels, further disrupting the tranquility of our neighbourhood.
The proposed housing development is not merely a local inconvenience but, a potential ecological disaster. The adjacent woodland, a vital habitat for local wildlife including deer and various woodland animals, is at risk. There is a real concern that some trees, home to these animals, might be removed, causing irreparable damage to the ecosystem.
In Harold Hill, cherished natural spaces should be protected and preserved for future generations, not replaced with dense housing developments. This woodland area is not only a refuge for wildlife but, a source of solace and recreation for the community. As developable land becomes scarcer it's essential to weigh the costs of such projects against short-term economic gains.
Moreover the introduction of new homes without sufficient infrastructure will exacerbate existing issues in our neighbourhood such as traffic congestion and noise pollution. The narrow access road is already an inconvenience for residents, and increasing its traffic volume poses safety risks for pedestrians and drivers alike.
We recommend the local council refuse this planning application P0162.25 and explore alternative sites for development that do not endanger valuable green spaces or negatively impact residents quality of life. Responsible urban planning must prioritize existing communities and environments.
