Title:
Protect Our Children: Require Bus Monitors, Security Cameras, and Accountability on Massachusetts School Buses

Petition:
We, the undersigned parents, guardians, and community members, are calling for immediate action to address serious safety and communication failures within school transportation systems across Massachusetts.

Families are facing ongoing concerns that cannot be ignored:

- Excessive and disorganized pickup lines creating unsafe conditions
- Children being left behind or forgotten during transportation
- A lack of clear, transparent communication with parents
- Conflicting or misleading information when concerns are raised
- Bullying, racial harassment, and unsafe behavior occurring without proper supervision

These are not minor inconveniences. These are failures that put children at risk and leave families without trust in the very systems meant to protect them.

No parent should ever have to question whether their child made it safely to or from school.

Since speaking out, other parents have reached out to share their own experiences and concerns.

I have heard from parents whose children were forgotten on school buses.

I have heard from parents whose children were subjected to racial slurs, including being called the N-word with the “ER” ending—something no child should ever have to endure.

I have also heard from a parent whose child was physically violated at school due to a lack of supervision. Another student squeezed her son’s testicles, causing him pain. He went home and told his mother what had happened—and nothing was done about it.

These are not isolated incidents. These are warning signs that stronger safety measures, supervision, accountability, and communication are urgently needed.

I also recently learned about a case reported outside of Massachusetts involving a mother who discovered that a bus driver had allegedly been sexually assaulting her daughter, even though cameras were present on the bus.

That story reinforced something important:

Cameras alone are not enough.

We need layered protection systems that include proper supervision, trained adults, accountability, mandatory reporting procedures, and extensive background screening for every adult responsible for transporting and supervising children.

Our children deserve prevention before tragedy—not after.

We are demanding immediate action:

1. A trained adult monitor on every school bus to ensure supervision and student safety during transportation.

2. Working security cameras placed at the front, middle, and back of every school bus to ensure incidents are documented, reviewed properly, and addressed with accountability.

3. Mandatory extensive CORI and background checks for all transportation employees, bus monitors, and individuals responsible for supervising children, just as bus drivers are required to complete, to ensure children are protected by properly screened adults.

4. Clear, consistent, and transparent communication with families regarding transportation logistics, incidents, delays, and safety concerns.

5. Strict accountability and immediate investigation procedures when children are forgotten, harmed, bullied, racially targeted, or placed in unsafe situations.

This petition is not about attacking individuals. It is about preventing harm, restoring trust, and ensuring that every child is protected.

Children deserve to feel safe not only inside the classroom, but also while traveling to and from school.

Parents deserve honesty.
Parents deserve transparency.
And children deserve protection.

We will not stay silent.
