Protect Our Children: Demand the Strongest Punishment for Rape in India
Protect Our Children: Demand the Strongest Punishment for Rape in India
The Issue
To the Government of India and the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India
I am starting this petition as a mother who is increasingly afraid of the world my daughter will grow up in.
I have a little daughter, and like every parent, I want her to grow up feeling safe. But when I hear about rape and sexual abuse, especially crimes against children, I find myself questioning how much I can trust the people around her.
A child should never have to live in fear. A parent should never have to constantly wonder whether someone they trust could harm their child.
Rape destroys lives. When the victim is a child, the physical and psychological consequences can last a lifetime. Yet families are often forced to wait years for justice.
I believe India must take a much stronger position against sexual violence.
I am calling for:
● The strongest legally permissible punishment for convicted rapists, particularly perpetrators who sexually assault children or commit exceptionally brutal offences.
● Fast-track, time-bound trials for rape and child sexual-abuse cases while fully protecting due process and preventing wrongful convictions.
● Stronger investigation and prosecution, so that cases do not disappear into years of delays.
● Severe consequences for repeat offenders.
● Better protection and background verification for people working closely with children.
● Long-term financial, medical and psychological support for survivors and their families.
● A national commitment that the safety of women and children will be treated as a priority rather than an afterthought.
Personally, I believe that for the most heinous crimes, once guilt has been established beyond reasonable doubt, even the harshest punishment—including the death penalty where legally applicable—should be considered.
I also believe that justice must be delivered through a fair judicial process. Punishment must come after guilt is proven, because an innocent person must never be punished for a crime they did not commit.
Why I am asking you to sign
I want my daughter and every other child in India to grow up without fear.
I want parents to be able to trust schools, neighbourhoods, workplaces and communities.
I want survivors to know that the country will stand with them.
And I want perpetrators to know that sexual violence will result in the most serious consequences the law allows.
If you believe India’s women and children deserve stronger protection, please sign this petition and share it.
Let our collective voice say clearly:
Our children deserve safety.
Survivors deserve justice.
Sexual violence must have serious consequences.
