Protect Our Children and Clean Up the Marina District

The Issue

Why We’re Speaking Out:

Just days ago, there was a stabbing at Fort Mason near Moscone Recreation Center, a spot that should feel safe for children visiting with their schools, nannies, or families. Incidents like this shake our entire community and remind us how urgently San Francisco needs to address the ongoing public safety and mental health crisis.

As preschool owners and fellow parents in the Marina District, we see the day to day reality of a system that is struggling to meet the needs of both its most vulnerable residents and its youngest ones. We frequently have to call the police to help relocate individuals who are sleeping in front of our school doors, people who are often in need of care, not punishment. We do this not out of judgment, but because we are trying to preserve a sense of safety, calm, and predictability for the children arriving at our school each day.

We believe it is possible to hold compassion and accountability at the same time. We want meaningful outreach and support for those experiencing homelessness and mental health challenges, but we also need a city where children can walk into school without fear, and where families can trust that their neighborhood is being cared for.

This petition is our effort to bring attention to a growing imbalance, one where the people most in need are still suffering, and the youngest members of our city are being impacted in ways they should never have to face.
