Protect OSAP Access for Students at Compliant Ontario Career Colleges
The Issue
Ontario's recent decision to pause Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) payments to private postsecondary institutions has created significant uncertainty for students who depend on financial assistance to pursue their education and career goals.
For many students, OSAP plays an essential role in making postsecondary education accessible. Students currently enrolled in affected institutions may face financial uncertainty and disruptions to their educational plans, while prospective students may encounter additional barriers to pursuing their chosen careers.
At AAPS College of Health, Science and Technology, we recognize the importance of protecting students' educational opportunities while maintaining accountability and responsible oversight of public funding. Students who have acted in good faith should not face unnecessary financial hardship or interruptions to their education because of circumstances beyond their control.
We call upon the Government of Ontario and the Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security to:
- Urgently review the pause on OSAP payments and restore access for students attending eligible, compliant institutions.
- Protect existing OSAP approvals and establish appropriate transitional arrangements for students already enrolled.
- Ensure that investigations and regulatory measures are fair, transparent, and proportionate, without unnecessarily disadvantaging students or institutions operating in good faith.
- Provide clear timelines, transparent communication, and practical solutions for affected students, including those planning to pursue postsecondary education.
Accountability and student protection must go hand in hand.
This petition is initiated by AAPS College of Health, Science and Technology and brings together our students, alumni, faculty, industry partners, and affiliates in support of current and prospective students affected by Ontario's OSAP restrictions.
We invite members of the AAPS community to add their voices to this initiative and support a fair, timely resolution that protects access to education and opportunities for students across Ontario.
Protecting students' education today means safeguarding their opportunities for tomorrow.
