Protect Old Growth Marri Trees in the City of Swan

Protect Old Growth Marri Trees in the City of Swan
The issue
John Septimus Roe Anglican School Beechboro Campus closed in December 2022. At the rear of the school is a old growth grove of Marri (Corymbia calophylla) trees that provide a crèche for young Red Tail Black Cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus Banskii Naso/ escondidus). The Naso Red Tail Black Cockatoo is listed as threatened on the EPCB Act 1999 & 2013.
The City of Swan has proposed to rezone the school from 'private clubs and institutions' to 'residential development'.
In simple terms it means this...
The City of Swan want to rezone the school land to residential development and as a result the grove of trees that make up a crucial part of the Black Cockatoos habitat corridor will be removed.
The Cockatoos are not the only species that utilise this grove of trees, there are an estimated 48 other species of birds that use these trees.
If these trees are removed we put these species at risk of further habitat degradation not to mention less trees in an already overheating urban environment.
