Protect Northern Rivers Dingoes - end the cull.

🐾 Protect the Dingo – Respect the Balance
Petition to Landcare Northern Rivers: Stop Killing Dingoes
Dingoes are not pests, they are a keystone species vital to healthy ecosystems. In the Northern Rivers, they regulate kangaroo and wallaby populations, protect smaller native animals, and help maintain biodiversity. Dingoes are a cultural species for many Indigenous groups on Bundjalung country.
Yet under outdated “wild dog” policies, dingoes continue to be hunted, trapped, and poisoned. These lethal measures leave behind orphaned pups, break apart family groups, and damage the very balance Landcare is meant to protect.
It’s time to stop treating dingoes as villains and start recognising them as guardians of the land.
- ✍️ We call on Landcare Northern Rivers to:
Stop lethal control measures, End poisoning, trapping, and shooting of dingoes in the Northern Rivers. - Recognise dingoes as a native species – Retire the misleading “wild dog” label.
- Protect family groups, Acknowledge that killing parents leaves behind orphaned pups and destabilises ecosystems.
- Work with Indigenous rangers and elders, Respect First Nations cultural knowledge of the varied ecotypes of Dingoes.
- Support coexistence solutions. Encourage and assist farmers in using guardian animals (Maremmas, donkeys) and improved fencing instead of culling.
- Preserve genetic integrity, Educate dog owners to prevent roaming dogs that threaten dingoes through hybridisation.
- Promote dingo conservation, Recognise dingoes as a keystone species, essential for maintaining balance in the Northern Rivers landscape.
Together, we can protect our dingoes, respect cultural knowledge, and ensure a balanced, thriving Northern Rivers ecosystem.
