The Issue

Close the Loopholes: Strengthen Nevada's Laws to Better Protect Victims of Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking, and Sexual Assault

Every survivor deserves a justice system that is timely, fair, transparent, and committed to protecting victims while upholding due process.

Too often, victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, and sexual assault face lengthy delays as their cases move through the legal system. During that time, victims may continue living in fear, struggle to access resources, and lose confidence in a system that should be there to protect them.

This petition calls on Nevada lawmakers to strengthen laws and improve procedures so that violent crimes against vulnerable victims receive timely attention, while respecting the constitutional rights of everyone involved.

We are calling on Nevada leaders to:

- Expedite the investigation and prosecution of domestic violence, human trafficking, and sexual assault cases.

- Strengthen protections for victims and witnesses throughout the legal process.

- Increase transparency and accountability in how these cases are investigated and prosecuted.

- Ensure law enforcement, prosecutors, and victim advocates have the resources necessary to investigate these crimes thoroughly and efficiently.

- Review existing laws to determine whether additional reforms are needed to better protect victims and hold offenders accountable.

- Improve the timeliness and efficiency of the Nevada Victims of Crime Compensation program so eligible victims receive financial assistance without unnecessary delays for expenses such as counseling, medical care, lost wages, relocation, and other qualifying costs.

Justice extends beyond the courtroom. Survivors often face immediate financial burdens while trying to rebuild their lives. Assistance intended to help victims should be available when it is needed most—not months later after avoidable delays.

This petition is not about eliminating due process or seeking convictions without evidence. It is about creating a justice system that responds promptly, supports victims, protects constitutional rights, and promotes accountability.

Whether you are a survivor, advocate, family member, or someone who believes Nevada can do better, your voice matters.

Together, we can strengthen Nevada's response to violent crime, improve support for survivors, restore public confidence in the justice system, and build a safer future for our communities.

Sign today and stand for justice, accountability, timely victim support, and meaningful reform in Nevada.
