Protect NCR Stray and Pan India Dogs from Forced Relocation and Potential Harm

Protect NCR Stray and Pan India Dogs from Forced Relocation and Potential Harm
The Issue
For countless years, I've shared my life with the stray dogs of NCR, witnessing their resilience, loyalty, and undeniable spirit. Recent Supreme Court of India’s decision to mandate the relocation of stray dogs from Delhi NCR to shelters deeply concerns me. Moving them into shelters, allegedly within 88 weeks, poses a grave threat to their lives, as many shelters are ill-equipped, underfunded, and invariably end up euthanizing more dogs than they rescue.
Stray dogs are an integral part of our community, contributing to its diversity and balance. While the intention behind relocating these dogs might stem from safety concerns or public pressure, it overlooks a broader ethical responsibility we hold towards these sentient beings. We must strive to coexist rather than resort to solutions that compromise their lives.
The judgment fails to take account of the inadequacies of Indian shelters. Many shelters lack basic resources, adequate space, and trained personnel necessary to care for an influx of strays. Furthermore, India's stray dog population is in millions, making this relocation impractical and only heightens the risk of cruelty and extermination.
Instead of enforced relocation, we propose the following humane and sustainable solutions:
1. Strengthening the existing animal birth control and rabies vaccination programs to control the stray population ethically.
2. Investing in community-based initiatives that promote coexistence, such as local feeding stations and guardian programs.
3. Enhancing the capacities and conditions of our existing shelters.
4. Public awareness campaigns to educate the community on compassion, care, and safety around stray dogs.
Addressing the stray dog issue requires compassion and collaboration rather than coercion. By signing this petition, you join a movement to ensure that these voiceless creatures are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. Let's save our dogs and choose coexistence over extermination. Please sign and share this petition to make a difference for our canine friends.
