Protect Ms Rachel Wallace Position and Prevent Her Unjustified Relocation

Protect Ms Rachel Wallace Position and Prevent Her Unjustified Relocation
The Issue
We, the students and mentees of Ms. Rachel, are raising our voices to stand against an unfair decision that threatens not just her job, but the support system she has built for us. Ms. Rachel is more than a GEAR UP advisor—she is a mentor, a guide, and a vital part of our school community.
She is facing relocation for an unjust reason: being “too close” to the basketball team. But what does that really mean? Ms. Rachel is not just an advisor to athletes—she is a mentor to countless students, myself included. She has been a lifeline for those of us navigating the challenges of high school, pushing us to succeed both academically and personally. In a school environment where finding an adult who truly cares can be rare, she has been that person for us.
Research proves the importance of strong mentorship in student success. According to the National Mentoring Partnership, students with dedicated mentors are 55% more likely to go to college, 78% more likely to volunteer, and significantly more likely to take on leadership roles and participate in extracurricular activities. Ms. Rachel embodies this kind of mentorship every day. She doesn’t just help us with school—she helps shape us into better people.
Relocating her for simply doing her job—caring about her students—is not just unfair, it’s harmful. Future students deserve the same guidance and support that we have been fortunate enough to receive. Removing her from the school makes children feel like they cant have a trusted adult at school and Desert Pines specifically isn't considering the wants and needs of the student who rely on Ms.Rachel to help guide them. Removing Ms. Rachel means taking away a crucial advocate for student success.
We urge the school board and administration to reconsider this decision. Ms. Rachel belongs here, with the students who rely on her. Please sign this petition and help us fight to keep an irreplaceable mentor in our lives.
Sincerely,
