Protect Mount Air!

The Issue

At the January 8, 2025 Sharon Township Meeting, a proposal was presented on behalf of the owner of Hickory Bluffs Farm, located in the city of Columbus, to bring sanitary sewer lines into Mount Air to provide service to a lot he hopes to purchase in the area.

Many Mount Air property owners have invested heavily in their current sanitary systems and are satisfied with what they have. They understand that the expansion of sewer lines would drive up development in their Sharon Township community.

Many questions about the proposal have been left unanswered:

Who will benefit most from this proposal- the community or the developer?

Would this developer continue to buy property and start developing Mount Air to raise money and gain the access points he will later need to develop his 223-acre property located in the city of Columbus west of Mount Air?

Will the prospect of getting Mount Air residents to agree to sewer lines into their neighborhood benefit those homeowners, or will this developer come out ahead through shared costs or cost savings for him?

If Mount Air residents agree that they need sewer lines in the community, and if they sign over property easements to the county, will the developer then use those easements for the rest of his needed access for infrastructure to his development?

We must protect Mount Air and its residents from bearing the financial burden and the costs of gentrification that will change the character of their Sharon Township community for a proposed real estate development in the city of Columbus.

We welcome ALL people in Northwest Columbus and surrounding areas to make their voices heard by signing this petition to be shared with Sharon Township trustees, the City of Columbus, Delaware, and Franklin County Sanitary Engineers, and the owner of Hickory Bluffs Farm.

Thank you!
