The Issue

Watching the land around my family's farm transform into solar plants has been challenging. I'm a fourth-generation farmer here in Minnesota, and my son is the fifth generation to grow up on this precious land. We chose to hold onto our family’s legacy rather than sell out for big bucks. But every day, more of our rich farmland is being converted into solar projects, threatening the future of local agriculture.

Solar energy is important, but we must find a balance that respects and protects our farmland. The land around my home used to be vibrant and full of life, contributing to our community's economy and heritage. Now, it's covered with solar panels. While renewable energy is crucial, it's imperative that we also focus on sustainable land use, preserving the traditions and futures of family farms.

Local agriculture isn't just about growing crops. It's about community, history, and sustaining our way of life. If we allow solar farms to continue taking over our best farmland, we risk losing not just food production capacity but the very essence of our rural communities. There must be policies that require solar installations to consider less fertile land first, instead of choosing prime agricultural spots.

A solution can be found that allows solar energy to thrive without sacrificing our farmland. We need thoughtful planning and action from state lawmakers to devise land use regulations that balance the need for renewable energy with the preservation of our agricultural roots.

Join me in urging Minnesota's decision-makers to protect our farmland from unchecked solar plant expansion. Let’s work together to ensure a future where agriculture and renewable energy can coexist. Sign this petition and help save Minnesota's farmland for future generations.
