Protect Middlesex Township from Pax-1
The Issue
For 25 years, my husband and I have cherished our life in Middlesex Township, Cumberland County, PA. We chose this neighborhood because of its natural beauty—the rolling fields of grain, the majestic mountain ranges, the historical Appalachian Trail, and the serene Conodoguinet Creek. Most importantly, we chose it for the community, filled with hardworking and fun-loving people who share our love for this land.
Today, this quiet township is under threat due to the proposed ~700-acre Hyperscale Data Center Complex, known as Pax-1. This enormous development will drastically alter our picturesque landscape, strain our resources, and disrupt our peaceful way of life. The noise, increased traffic, and environmental impact from such a large-scale project is nothing short of a catastrophe for our community.
To protect our township, "Neighbors Against Pax-1," a group of dedicated local citizens, has filed a legal challenge based on spot zoning. Spot zoning is when a small area is singled out for a zone change that benefits a specific development, against the interests of the broader community. This type of zoning threatens to erode the integrity and character of our township to cater to specialized economic interests.
The presence of this hyperscale data center does not return any positive benefits to our community. Instead, it consumes our precious resources—be it land, water, or tranquility—and leaves behind noise and pollution. Our fields, our communities, our way of life are invaluable, and they deserve to be protected.
