PROTECT Medicated Abortion, STOP Texas Senate Bill 2880

PROTECT Medicated Abortion, STOP Texas Senate Bill 2880
The Issue
Republicans in Texas have just introduced Senate Bill 2880, and it’s another direct attack on our freedom to make decisions about our bodies. We must act now.
This 43-page bill is the most terrifying attempt to restrict and criminalize abortion we’ve seen in 2025. The 19th News calls it “the most sweeping abortion bill introduced in the state since the fall of Roe v. Wade.” If passed, this legislation will make it even harder for Texans to access the care they desperately need – and it could impact abortion access across America.
Why is this bill so dangerous?
- It targets websites that provide essential information about medication abortion, shutting down critical resources for those seeking help.
- It goes after tech companies that process payments for abortion medications, essentially criminalizing their role in providing basic healthcare.
- It empowers "biological fathers" to sue for the “wrongful death of an unborn child” if someone takes abortion medication, opening the door for abusive lawsuits that will harm individuals in vulnerable situations.
- It makes it a felony to help someone access an abortion, even if that means assisting with travel costs to states where abortion is legal. This bill would put family members, friends, and even nonprofits at risk for simply offering support.
Right now, Texas is already a reproductive care desert, with a six-week abortion ban that offers few exceptions. Medication abortion, especially through telemedicine, has been a lifeline for so many. In Texas and other states with restrictive laws, this virtual care has been the only option left for countless people to access the healthcare they deserve.
But this bill doesn’t just threaten to eliminate access in Texas – it seeks to shut down a crucial loophole that allows people to obtain medication from out-of-state providers. Without this option, many will be forced to travel great distances or, worse, face dangerous and unsafe alternatives.
Medication abortion is safe, effective, and affordable. But this bill puts every patient, every provider, and every supporter at risk. If we stand by and do nothing, this could be the beginning of even more widespread attacks on our rights.
We cannot afford to stay silent. This is about more than politics. It’s about the lives, the health, and the futures of countless people in Texas and across the US. We must send a clear message to lawmakers that we will not stand by while they take away our rights and our dignity.
Say NO to Senate Bill 2880.
