Protect Maxwell Park and Ensure Full Transparency on Future Development

Protect Maxwell Park and Ensure Full Transparency on Future Development
The Issue
Maxwell Park is a valued community asset at the heart of Elstree and Borehamwood. Residents rely on its open space, recreational facilities, and contribution to the character of our town.
As proposals for future development continue to emerge, many residents have concerns about the potential impact on local infrastructure, traffic congestion, parking capacity, public safety, and access to green space. Our roads are already under pressure, and any significant increase in activity must be carefully assessed to ensure that local services and amenities can cope.
Residents also seek greater transparency regarding decisions affecting public land and community assets. Recent announcements concerning the future of the former Guide Hut site and plans for a purpose-built mosque and community centre have raised questions about the terms of the land transaction, the long-term lease arrangements, and the potential implications for the surrounding area. Open and transparent decision-making is essential to maintaining public confidence.
This petition is not opposed to any faith, community group, or lawful use of land. Rather, it calls for all planning and development proposals affecting Maxwell Park and the surrounding area to be subject to thorough scrutiny, meaningful public consultation, and full disclosure of relevant information.
We call on Hertsmere Borough Council and all relevant decision-makers to:
• Protect Maxwell Park and its surrounding environment from inappropriate overdevelopment.
• Ensure that any future development is supported by robust assessments of traffic, parking, environmental, and infrastructure impacts.
• Provide full transparency regarding public land transactions, lease arrangements, valuations, and decision-making processes.
• Conduct meaningful consultation with local residents before any significant changes are approved.
• Ensure that the interests of existing residents, community groups, and future generations are fully considered.
Please sign this petition if you believe that Maxwell Park should be protected and that decisions affecting our community should be made openly, transparently, and in the public interest.
