The Issue

Marion County is being transformed at a pace our infrastructure, environment, and residents cannot sustain. We are calling on the Marion County Board of County Commissioners to pause large‑scale development approvals and protect the land, wildlife, and rural character that make this county home.

To the Marion County Board of County Commissioners:

We, the residents of Marion County, are urgently calling for responsible action to address the rapid and destructive over-development occurring throughout our community. Our county is losing natural lands, wildlife habitats, and historic horse farms at an alarming rate. These decisions are being made without adequate infrastructure, environmental protections, or meaningful public involvement.

Marion County is known for its open spaces, rural character, and world‑renowned horse farms — qualities that are disappearing as large-scale developments are approved one after another. Residents across the county have raised concerns in community meetings, neighborhood groups, and letters to local officials, yet these concerns continue to be overlooked.

We are asking the Board of County Commissioners to take immediate action to protect the future of Marion County by committing to the following:

1. Pause approval of new large-scale developments
Until traffic capacity, water resources, emergency services, and environmental impacts are fully evaluated and addressed.

2. Protect remaining natural lands and wildlife corridors
Unchecked construction is destroying critical habitats and displacing wildlife at a rate our ecosystems cannot withstand.

3. Preserve Marion County’s horse farms and agricultural heritage
These lands are irreplaceable and central to our identity as the Horse Capital of the World.

4. Require transparent, community-centered planning
Residents deserve to be informed and involved before decisions are made — not after.

5. Prioritize responsible, balanced growth
Development should serve the people who live here, not outside investors seeking profit at the expense of our county’s future.

Marion County belongs to its residents. We are asking our elected officials to listen to the people they represent and take immediate steps to protect the land, wildlife, and character of our home.

We urge the Board of County Commissioners to act now.
