Protect Lynedoch Crescent, restore its history

Protect Lynedoch Crescent, restore its history

The Issue

The Park Area of Glasgow was made a conservation area in the 1970s.

It is important to preserve the historical and architectural integrity of our city, and to maintain a consistent approach across all streets within the conservation area.

Lynedoch Crescent within the conservation area was started in 1845. It was designed by architect George Smith who also designed Woodside Terrace, Woodside Place and nearby Lynedoch Street.

It is therefore disappointing to see that Lynedoch Crescent has not been afforded the same level of protection as other streets in the same area, which could potentially result in irreparable damage to the area's character.

Our concern and disappointment is the recent changes made to Lynedoch Crescent, particularly in relation to the removal of historic sandstone pavements and lamp poles which has significantly impacted the character and charm of the street, and do not appear to be in keeping with the surrounding conservation area or streets.

Lynedoch Crescent has not been treated in the same way as other streets in this area and has undergone changes that have resulted in a loss of its historical significance.

We respectfully request that Glasgow City Council takes action to rectify this situation by reinstating the historic sandstone pavements and Victorian style lamp poles in Lynedoch Crescent, in line with the surrounding streets.
