The Issue

Right now, domestic violence shelters across Greater Boston are overwhelmed. Reach Beyond Domestic Violence, which serves 27 cities and towns including Waltham, is already stretched to the limit. They offer free shelter, advocacy, and legal help—but wait times are growing, and critical funding is running out.

Federal budget cuts have gutted victim services just as demand is rising. Some survivors are being told they’ll have to wait weeks for help—while facing abuse, homelessness, or hospitalization. And for immigrant families, fear of deportation is keeping people silent and alone.

Legal aid is disappearing. Emergency beds are full. The political will to fix it? Barely there.

Boston has long been a city that shows up for those in crisis. Now it’s time to do that again.

Sign this petition to call on Massachusetts leaders, local governments, and community foundations to step in. Fund domestic violence shelters. Fill the gap left by federal cuts. Make sure every survivor has somewhere safe to turn—no matter their status, income, or language.

Because no one in Boston should be turned away when they ask for help.
