Protect Kurdish Civilians in Aleppo(ROJAVA-SYRİA) – Act Now!
The Issue
The Kurdish people in Aleppo are facing a severe humanitarian crisis. At least 278 civilians are missing, 27 have been killed, 133 injured, and approximately 148,000 forcibly displaced. Independent verification is extremely difficult, as the Syrian Transitional Government is blocking independent media and only allowing allied outlets to enter. The fragile ceasefire recently declared in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh has shifted from active combat to state-sponsored atrocities.
Human Rights Abuses and Emerging Atrocities:
Extrajudicial executions of medical staff and civilians remaining in the neighborhoods.
Systematic abuse and humiliation of Kurdish detainees and fleeing civilians, including physical assault and sectarian insults.
Mass arbitrary detentions of hundreds of young men, with current whereabouts unknown.
Role of Extremist Groups:
“Sweep and search” operations are carried out by extremist groups integrated into the new Syrian military structure, including the Sultan Suleiman Shah Division (Al-Amshat), the Hamza Division (Al-Hamzat), and the General Security Service (formerly HTS).
These groups have a documented history of war crimes and appear on UN, US, and European terror lists.
Leadership Concerns:
Interim president Ahmad al-Sharaa is the former leader of HTS (previously Abu Mohammad al-Jolani), an organization with long-standing jihadist roots.
Wider Pattern of Minority Attacks:
Over 1,400 Alawite civilians were killed in “revenge attacks” in coastal regions in early 2025.
Hundreds of Druze civilians have been killed in southern Syria.
Attacks on Kurds in Aleppo have created an atmosphere of fear for all minorities in Syria.
The Debt to Kurdish Allies:
Kurdish forces sacrificed over 15,000 lives as the vanguard in the global fight against ISIS.
Remaining silent while these allies are branded as “terrorists” and hunted by former jihadist factions is a moral and strategic failure.
Urgent Requested Actions:
Deploy Independent Monitors: Ensure the ceasefire is not a cover for mass executions.
Conditional Support: All aid, diplomatic recognition, and reconstruction assistance must be conditional on the verified safety and political inclusion of Kurds, Alawites, and Druze.
Implement Agreements: Enforce the March 10th agreement between General Mazloum Abdi and Ahmad al-Sharaa to guarantee Kurdish human rights.
Halt Terrorist Integration: Remove sanctioned extremist commanders and militias from security apparatuses.
Ensure Political Inclusion: Guarantee that all components of Syria, including Kurds, fully participate in the political process.
The international community must act immediately to prevent Aleppo from becoming a graveyard for the people who fought hardest to liberate Syria from terror.
Do not wait – sign now to protect Kurdish civilians in Aleppo!
