Protect Kings Point Residents and petition Council for a Safe Shared Pathway NOW!

The issue

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!

Support Kings Point residents and sign our petition to Shoalhaven City Council for the urgent construction of a Shared User Pathway!

Shared Path for All Now: Protect Our Community from Dangerous Travel between Kings Point and the Princes Highway.

Kings Point Resident travels along the side of Kings Point Road in Mobility Scooter with Cars travelling 80km p/h in close proximity.

WHY?

The only access road in and out of Kings Point is 2.1km, of which the majority (1.71km) has an 80km per hour speed limit. The road has no formal pathway for pedestrians, and large sections of the road are devoid of shoulders or off-road alternatives, forcing walkers, runners, cyclists, and those using mobility aids into dangerous situations. Currently, residents have no safe way to travel between Kings Point and Princes Highway without a car.

Our community includes a wheelchair-bound quadriplegic young man and other residents who are reliant on friends and family because they are unable to use their mobility scooters to travel into Ulladulla. They deserve safe, independent access to essential services. Council has an obligation to ensure this access is provided.

The residents of Kings Point have come together to insist that Shoalhaven City Council constructs a shared user pathway (SUP) that will safely connect the residents of Kings Point with Ulladulla, Burrill Lake and beyond.

WHAT’S AT STAKE?

Every day, residents’ risk serious injury due to unsafe conditions. Immediate construction of the SUP is critical to protect lives, ensure safe travel for all and enhance community independence and wellbeing.

Council have suggested it will be developed once the Milton Ulladulla bypass is completed but that is at least 7-10 years away. We cannot wait - it must be constructed NOW!

Two cars travelling 80km p/h along Kings Point Road with no safe pathways for residents.

WHY IT MATTERS

Safety: A shared user pathway will protect everyone, offering a safe alternative to the current hazardous conditions.

Health and Wellbeing: The pathway will promote healthier lifestyles by encouraging walking and cycling, allowing residents to enjoy nature and fresh air.

Environmental Impact: Reducing reliance on cars will decrease traffic and lower carbon emissions, helping to preserve our environment.

Community Connection: This pathway will strengthen our community by making it easier for residents to connect and enjoy shared spaces.
