However, this jewel is under threat. In the name of progress and infrastructure development, new construction projects are encroaching on the park's fringes, and in some cases, threatening its very core. Roads and bridges, while necessary for human convenience, should not come at the cost of the rich biodiversity that makes Kaziranga unique.

Development doesn't have to mean destruction. We need to find a balance that allows for progress in infrastructure that meets the needs of local communities without sacrificing our natural heritage. One realistic solution is to implement and adhere to stringent environmental impact assessments. These assessments can guide where and how development can proceed, ensuring that wildlife corridors remain undisturbed and that critical habitats are protected. Local and international environmental experts and stakeholders must be included in any planning process from the start.

According to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Kaziranga is recognized as a World Heritage Site for its outstanding universal value. Losing this heritage to thoughtless construction would be a tragedy not just for India, but for the world. Every measure must be taken to conserve the park’s natural structure while still considering ways to improve the quality of life for its nearby residents.

We appeal to the government officials, environmental agencies, and development planners to take immediate action. Adopt smarter, more sustainable development strategies that do not compromise the integrity of Kaziranga National Park. Protect it from encroachment and ensure future plans incorporate ethical environmental practices.
