Protect Hollins University Traditions

Protect Hollins University Traditions
The Issue
Hollins University administration has recently launched a war on our beloved traditions. In the late 1800's, the first documented Tinker Scare happened and ever since each senior class has eagerly anticipated taking part in this tradition. Unfortunately, administration has called our traditions childish, and overall does not respect the history and legacy of our institution, nor do they respect Hollins students or alumni.
The class of 2026 did not get to have a real Tinker Scare before the first day of class, and on the first Scare of the semester, we were met with incredible disrespect from admin. We received emails stating that the Tinker Scare had been approved and that we were to gather at 11:45 PM. We did this, and at 11:48 PM, we received an email telling us that the Scare was canceled and we were not to continue through with the tradition. We carried on with the Scare and were met with support from the underclass students.
We feel that administration is not supporting the Hollins community and the traditions that are lovingly passed from class to class, as we are a historically women's college. We hope that current students, staff, faculty and alumni will support the Class of 2026, and sign this petition asking that 1) our traditions not be tampered with. 2) Our traditions remain respected, and 3) that going forward, administration does not have complete control over how our traditions are carried out, and that student leader and general student input is carefully considered.
