Dear Governor Mike DeWine,

My name is Karma Williams. I am a state tested nurse aide in the state of Ohio and have been for almost nineteen years. I am creating this petition in hopes that you can find  a way to protect us healthcare professionals mainly us nurse aides. When we signed up for the job, we signed up to care and protect our patients. As the years has progressed we are verbally, mentally, physically and emotionally abused. Although some patients are mentally incapable of understanding what they are saying and doing, there is a vast majority who does. We are now dealing with the younger generation of residents/patients who has all rights to video record us and take pictures without our consent and we are told there is nothing we can do about it. We are harassed and talked down too by patients and family members like we are rubbish. 

We are told we are maids, slaves and have to do whatever we are told. And when we go to management about how we are treated we are basically told (in so many words) deal with it or find another job. We have no one to advocate for us but ourselves. Nursing homes today has become all about the monetary aspect. As long as they pay they're way, they have they're way! But a nursing home/hospital can not be ran correctly without us nurse aides. We are the eyes and ears of these facilities and we are treated like we are less than. A lot of us go home and deal with the stresses of everyday life after dealing with superfluous stress at work as well. Who do we talk too? Who can we go too when we are mistreated and abused? WE ARE BEGGING FOR CHANGE! Regardless of pay, no amount of money is worth the pain and maltreatment that we receive as healthcare professionals. WE ARE THERE TO HELP! NOT BE TAUNTED AND DISPARAGED!
