Protect Gorseinon's Historic Watermill & make it more accessible for all!!
The Issue
The community of Goresinon and the surrounding areas are at risk of losing a very historical monument. The 12th Centurary Watermill is situated in the the biggest park within the area and is very much an important part of the areas history. From being origianlly linked to Cisterian monks who used it to mill flour to being on of if not the first recorded papermill in Wales. It was then part of the epicentre to the growth of the area. In 2021 the Friends of Park Melin Mynach discovered the dating stone of the mill expansion dated to 1874.
This mill and the land it sits in is a pinacle part of the areas heritage lets make sure it lasts while being accessable to all, currently those lesser abled arent able to access the park from the Cecil Road entrance, the closest one to the mill, due to the paths being unsuitable.
The mill is currently hidden behind alot of over growth, this makes it the perfect place for the local teenagers to hangout but unfortunately at the same time the mill is becoming more and more damaged. With the dating stone that was discovered now being knocked down along with one of the walls at the entrance to the mill.
Due to the inaccessable entrance to the park on Cecil road it makes it difficult for those of all abilitys to enjoy this park and the monument within it soon that entrance will become a mud bath if the paths do not get improved.
The Friends of Park Melin Mynach are calling on YOU the local residents to help us show to Swansea Council along with Cadw that the mill needs to be protected and that we have the backing of the residents to show that this is what is needed to protect the areas heritage before it is to late!
We also need your helping in proving to them that the entrances across all of the park need to be accessable for all! Signing this pettion will do both!
