A man filled his car with explosives, drove to a fertility clinic in Palm Springs, and tried to livestream the blast. Four people were injured. The clinic was damaged. The FBI says this was a targeted attack.

It could have been so much worse.

This clinic offers IVF, egg donation, surrogacy, and care for same-sex couples. It was targeted simply for providing reproductive services. And yet, there are no national safety protocols in place to protect fertility clinics from extremist violence.

We can’t treat this like an isolated incident. This was a bomb at a medical facility. It needs a real response.

We are calling on the Department of Justice and Department of Health and Human Services to classify fertility clinics as high-risk health care facilities and provide emergency funding for security. We’re also asking for federal tracking of threats against reproductive providers not just abortion clinics, but IVF centers too.
