Protect Farnham Park and Keep Our Green Belt Open

Protect Farnham Park and Keep Our Green Belt Open
The Issue
Farnham Park Playing Fields and South Bucks Golf Course are a vital part of our community.
From 1 April, the existing 18-hole South Bucks Golf Course — the only council-run golf course in Buckinghamshire — is scheduled to be reduced to just 9 holes. This significant change is being implemented before any wider public consultation on the long-term proposals has taken place. Under the proposed new structure, long-standing golf club arrangements will no longer continue in their current form.
This change is linked to wider plans to build a professional football academy and training complex on part of the site, including multiple full-size pitches and a large indoor training dome on Green Belt land between Stoke Poges and Farnham Royal.
This is not a small adjustment. It is a major and permanent change to public recreational land.
Previous Public Assurances
In 2025, when the Council and Wycombe Wanderers announced their partnership, residents were told:
“The sites will remain open as usual for users throughout the design and planning process.”
The design and planning process has only just begun.
Yet from 1 April 2026, the 18-hole course is being reduced to 9 holes and established club arrangements are ending. This raises serious concerns about transparency and the sequencing of decisions.
Why This Matters
South Bucks Golf Course is:
- Publicly accessible
- Affordable and open to all ages
- Used by juniors, families and older residents
- One of the last council-run sporting facilities in the county
Reducing the course weakens local access to affordable sport.
But this is about more than golf.
The Green Belt between Stoke Poges and Farnham Royal exists to prevent urban sprawl and protect the separation between our villages. A fenced professional academy complex would permanently change the character of this open land.
There are already 11 public football pitches on the site. This proposal introduces a private training base for a professional club located outside our immediate community.
We Are Asking For:
- Protection of the Green Belt buffer between our villages
- Retention of the full 18-hole public golf course
- Clear financial justification for the changes
- Genuine consultation with residents before permanent decisions are implemented
Public land should serve the whole public — not be permanently altered without full community understanding.
Add Your Name
If you believe:
- Our Green Belt should be protected
- Public recreational facilities should not be reduced without clear justification
- Major decisions about community land must be transparent and accountable

Let’s ensure Farnham Park remains open, balanced and properly governed for generations to come.
