Protect Fairness and Inclusion for Trans Women in Olympic Sports

The Issue

The Olympic Games are meant to represent the best of humanity, unity, respect, and the opportunity for athletes from all backgrounds to compete at the highest level.

A newly announced policy from the International Olympic Committee will exclude transgender women from women’s events and introduce mandatory genetic screening to determine eligibility.

This decision raises important questions about fairness, inclusion, and the rights of athletes.

Fair competition matters. Athletes dedicate their lives to training, and the integrity of sport should be protected. At the same time, the Olympic Charter itself recognizes that access to sport is a human right. Policies that exclude entire groups of athletes risk undermining that principle and sending a message that some individuals do not belong.

There are also concerns about privacy. Requiring genetic testing, even if described as limited or “least intrusive,” introduces a new level of scrutiny into athletes’ personal biology. Many will question whether such measures are necessary, proportionate, or respectful of individual dignity.

This is not a simple issue, and it deserves thoughtful, transparent solutions.

We call on the International Olympic Committee to engage with athletes, medical experts, and human rights organizations to ensure that any eligibility policies are evidence-based, fair, and respectful of all competitors. We also urge the IOC to clearly define safeguards around privacy and limit invasive testing wherever possible.

The goal should not be exclusion. It should be finding a path that upholds both fairness in competition and respect for every athlete.

The Olympics have always evolved. This moment calls for leadership that brings people together, not policies that deepen division.

Sign this petition to support a future where the Olympic Games remain fair, inclusive, and respectful for all athletes, including trans women.
