Protect Emeryville from Tesla Establishing a Collision Center

Protect Emeryville from Tesla Establishing a Collision Center
The Issue
As residents of Emeryville, we are deeply concerned about the harmful and hazardous impacts that a proposed Tesla collision center at 1295 67th Street (between 66th and 67th streets) will have on our neighborhood. In February this year, the San Francisco District, along with 24 other District Attorneys throughout California, announced that a judge in San Joaquin County ordered Tesla, Inc. to pay $1.5 million as part of a settlement of a civil environmental prosecution alleging the electric car company illegally disposed of hazardous waste at its car service centers, energy centers, and its factory in Fremont. Tesla has proven over and over that they are NOT a good neighbor - let's say NO to them moving in!
This center would worsen air quality from paint fumes, increase risks of thermal runaway from lithium battery fires, creates hazardous waste often illegally disposed locally, worsen noise pollution and traffic, and strain our limited parking resources. The proposed Tesla site threatens neighborhood safety given the site is located across from a senior community center and next to the Emeryville greenway, where children and families recreate everyday.
Tesla plans to open a collision repair facility which involves processes like grinding, sanding, welding and painting. These procedures don't just create disagreeable noise but can also release dust, fumes or gases into the air, which are harmful to both humans and the environment. Such a collision center would clash sharply with the quality of life we are accustomed to and value.
We must urge the Emeryville Planning Commission to recognize the harm this center will bring to our shared environment and deny the proposed permit to Tesla. A Tesla collision center IN our neighborhood is a danger to our health, safety, and welfare. Please, support Emeryville's residents in preserving the quality of life and safety in our community by signing this petition today.
The following dates are tentatively scheduled and subject to change if the project is not ready:
- January 23. Planning Commission Study Session
- March 20. Planning Commission Public Hearing (pending revisions from the Study Session).
Please sign the petition today and come to the Study Session and Public Hearing to have your voice heard!
