Protect Elk Grove: Say No to the 24/7 Maverik Diesel Super-Station at Grant Line & 99

The Issue

FJ Management, a Utah-based investment firm, has applied to build a 24/7 Maverik gas station and convenience store with diesel fueling at East Stockton Blvd. and Grant Line Rd. The project site is near neighborhoods, playcenters like Enchanted Elk Grove, tutoring and learning centers, a youth baseball training facility, a music school, and the SES Hall — all places where children, teens, and families gather daily. It is also close to the City’s planned Livable Employment Area (LEA) — a vision for high-quality jobs and future growth in Elk Grove.

This proposal raises serious concerns for Elk Grove’s future. Round-the-clock diesel fueling would bring heavy truck traffic, air pollution, and noise to one of the most family-focused areas of our city.

Our neighborhoods, parks, and youth facilities are what make Elk Grove special. They’re places where families thrive, kids learn and play, and neighbors feel safe. But a 24/7 fueling station serving diesel trucks would disrupt that balance. It means more traffic, more emissions, and potential health risks for children, seniors, and other vulnerable residents.

Constant operations — including idling, bright lights, and late-night activity — would erode the peace and quiet nearby neighborhoods depend on. Truck stops across the country have been linked with increased safety concerns, including loitering and illicit activity, which should not be placed next to places where children and families spend their time.

There is also no unmet need for another large fueling station in this area. Within a three-mile radius, several gas stations with convenience stores already serve local residents and travelers — including the Plaza Center project at Elk Grove Blvd. and Highway 99, approved in 2022. Elk Grove has already planned for these services in appropriate, well-suited locations.

The location is also incompatible with the City’s vision for the LEA, which is intended to attract high-quality employers and professional opportunities — not industrial truck infrastructure. A diesel truck stop at this site would undercut Elk Grove’s long-term economic and community goals.

We urge the Elk Grove City Council and Planning Commission to reject this proposal and protect the health, safety, and character of our community.

Sign the petition today to stop the Maverik truck stop and preserve the Elk Grove we love.
