Protect Durack - Say NO to through roads!

Protect Durack - Say NO to through roads!
The issue
🏡 Durack Community – We Need Your Support!
Urbex, the developers of The Heights Durack, have submitted a proposal to rezone the Durack Heights development, including plans to create through-roads into our existing Durack community.
Source - Development Application PA2024/0406
💬 Why This Matters
We all chose to live in Durack because it’s safe, peaceful, and family-friendly. This proposal puts everything we love about our neighbourhood at risk.
Let’s be clear: We are not opposed to growth or development. But it should not come at the expense of the safety, lifestyle, and liveability of current Durack residents.
Existing Durack Heights Master Plan
❌ What We Oppose
We strongly oppose unnecessary through-roads that will:
- Increase traffic flow
- Create opportunity for rat running through Durack
- Change the character and nature of our quite streets
🛑 The Urbex Proposal Includes:
- Extending Packard Avenue through Carpentaria Court to Woodlake Boulevard
- Potential future roads via: Borassus Court, Sorrento Close, Kooyonga Parade, Deakin Place, Monash Court
- Turning Woodlake Boulevard into a main thoroughfare
This would impact not just a few streets—but the entire Durack community through traffic overflow and safety concerns.
Proposed rezoning
🕰️ History Repeats – But Our Response Remains the Same
A similar proposal to create through-roads into Durack was rejected in 2011 following strong community opposition.
That outcome reflected the clear will of Durack residents—and nothing has changed.
Our community remains steadfastly opposed to turning our peaceful neighbourhood into a traffic corridor.
The fact that this idea has resurfaced without genuine consultation is deeply disappointing and shows a disregard for long-standing community sentiment.

✍️ PETITION TO:
The Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment
The NT Planning Commission
City of Palmerston Council
We, the undersigned residents of Durack, strongly oppose the proposed through-road connections from The Heights, Durack development into the existing Durack community, as outlined in Development Application PA2024/0406.
⚠️ Key Concerns:
🚸 Serious Safety Risks
Through-roads will endanger children, pedestrians, and cyclists in areas built for low-speed, residential use.
🛣️ Rat Running & Traffic Overflow
These connections will encourage drivers to bypass main roads, turning Durack into a shortcut for external traffic. The whole suburb will feel the impact.
🧭 Alternative Options Ignored
While Packard Avenue is listed as the main access point, the traffic assessment recommends dispersing traffic through Durack streets to preserve Packard’s classification—shifting the burden onto our community.
🏡 Loss of Amenity
Quiet streets, local parks, and walkable spaces define Durack. Turning our neighbourhood into a traffic corridor will undermine that identity.
📢 No Meaningful Consultation
Many residents were not informed of these proposed changes until after documentation was lodged, despite the permanent effects on our lifestyle and property values.
✅ We Are Calling On Authorities To:
❌ Reject all through-road connections into Carpentaria Court, Woodlake Boulevard, or any other Durack street
🔄 Redesign the development to allow external access only
👥 Consult the Durack community and prioritise safety, liveability, and fair planning
✊ Please act now to protect the future of Durack.
🖊️ Add your name and stand with us to keep our community safe, peaceful, and connected.
