Protect Dogs and Wildlife in Louisiana
Although the number of states that still allow the chasing, harassing and killing of wildlife with packs of radio-collared dogs is on the decline, this so-called sport -- which includes the hound-hunting of deer -- is still permitted in Louisiana.
Hound hunters often outfit their hounds with radio collars and use GPS devices to track them, so they don't have to keep up with the chase. Often by the time the hunter catches up to the hunting dogs, the pack has already literally torn apart its wildlife target.
The hunting dogs themselves often fare poorly, as well. Treated more as hunting tools than as pets, dogs who fail to perform well; who become too sick, injured or old to keep up with the chase; or who become pregnant may be abandoned to fend for themselves. Other dogs are either killed outright or dropped off at already-overburdened animal shelters once they've outlived their usefulness.
TAKE ACTION
Please take a moment to tell the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, as well as the National Forest Service, that the treatment of both wildlife and hunting dogs should be taken seriously, and that hound hunting is cruel and unsporting. Tell them that the hound hunting of deer should not be permitted in Kisatchie National Forest.

Hunting with packs of radio-collared dogs has become out of place in an increasingly urbanized Louisiana, leading to a growing number of conflicts with landowners, fellow hunters and those concerned with the welfare of animals. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the U.S. Forest Service need to take steps to remedy these problems and address the concerns of Louisianans by eliminating deer hound hunting in Kisatchie National Forest.
