Protect Democracy and Fair Elections in Pakistan
The Issue
We urgently draw your attention to the alarming developments in Pakistan that threaten the democratic process and the rule of law. Recently, the trial court in Pakistan delivered a verdict against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, citing a breach in the State Secret Act. The verdict includes an unprecedented 10-year imprisonment in maximum security.
Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister and Chairman of Tehrik-e-Insaf, faces an unjust trial for fabricated cases, including the Saifur Rehman case. His recent communication sheds light on the challenges to constitutional requirements and legal norms in these trials.
In his words:
"My fellow Pakistanis! By now, you've likely heard from my legal team about how trials for fabricated cases, including the Saifur Rehman case, are progressing, challenging constitutional requirements and legal norms."
However, concerns have been raised about the fairness of the trial, as the council reportedly failed to provide a fair hearing and denied the prosecution the opportunity to question witnesses. Disturbingly, this decision was announced just days before the General Elections 2024 scheduled for next month in February.
In a further blow to democratic principles, the Election Commission of Pakistan has revoked the electoral symbol from Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf, the prominent political party in Pakistan. Additionally, political workers associated with Tehrik-e-Insaf attempting to hold rallies are being unlawfully detained, raising serious questions about the integrity of the upcoming elections.
They aim to manipulate public sentiment by imposing a harsh sentence, potentially inciting protests or orchestrating false flag operations to achieve their agenda. Imran Khan emphasizes that this battle belongs to the people, urging them to stand against injustice peacefully on February 8th through their vote.
The same case, marked by non-bailable warrants and attempts to prosecute it disregarding constitutional and legal principles, underscores the gravity of the situation. The Supreme Court's grant of bail highlights the falsehoods, deceit, conspiracies, and manipulation at the core of this case.
Despite central witness statements yielding nothing against Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood, there are alarming attempts to conclude this trial without adherence to legal rules and procedures.
Imran Khan warns:
"This trial is not just a trial but a fixed match, with the outcome predetermined by the London Plan's architects and strategists. That's why I'm already aware of the judgment in this case."
We, the undersigned, express our solidarity with the people of Pakistan and their right to a fair, transparent, and unmanipulated electoral process. This petition calls for international attention, urging the global community to stand with Pakistan in safeguarding its democracy.
