Protect DEI Initiatives

The Issue

We, the undersigned, stand together to oppose the removal of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs under [specific legislation, e.g., S.F. 2435 (Chapter 1152) and House File 855]. These programs are not about favoritism—they are about ensuring that students of color and other marginalized communities receive the support necessary to thrive in academic spaces that were not originally designed for us.

Why This Matters:

DEI programs create a sense of belonging. Without these spaces, many students of color feel isolated and unsupported.
DEI initiatives address systemic barriers. These programs provide mentorship, financial aid resources, and academic support crucial to student success.
Removing DEI programs sends a harmful message. It tells students of color that their presence, struggles, and contributions are not valued.
Thriving institutions need diversity. Studies show that diverse and inclusive educational environments lead to better learning outcomes for all students.
We Demand the Following Actions:

Immediate repeal of policies that eliminate or restrict DEI programs on college campuses.
Protection and funding for multicultural student centers, scholarship programs, and mentorship initiatives that directly serve underrepresented students.
Public acknowledgment from our institution’s leadership affirming the value of diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
Open forums between students, faculty, and administration to ensure that student voices are heard and included in decision-making processes.
We refuse to be erased. We demand action. We urge [University Name / State Leaders] to uphold their commitment to equal access, representation, and success for all students.
