Protect Community Standards in Cumberland City Council SYDNEY

Protect Community Standards in Cumberland City Council SYDNEY
The issue
Public office is a privilege. It carries a duty to communicate responsibly and represent the whole community.
We are calling on Cumberland City Council to urgently investigate whether recent public statements made by Councillor Ahmed Ouf — including comments describing Australia Day as “genocide” and statements made during a Council meeting — breach the standards set out in the Council’s Code of Conduct.
This is not about shutting down debate. It is about whether the language used by an elected representative meets the level of professionalism restraint and respect required of public office.
Cumberland is one of the most diverse communities in Australia. Our leaders should strengthen community cohesion, not test its limits.
If serious concerns about conduct are ignored, public confidence in Council will suffer. Transparency and accountability are essential to maintaining trust.
We ask Council to:
• Conduct an immediate review under the Code of Conduct
• Determine whether a breach has occurred
• Publicly communicate the findings
Our community expects better. If you believe public office demands responsible conduct and accountability, add your name.
