Protect Collectors: Stop Bots and Bulk Buying in Trading Card Releases

The Issue

CARDS FOR COLLECTORS, NOT BOTS.

Collectors are being locked out of their own hobby.

Within seconds of new trading card releases going live, products are bought out in bulk by bots and large-scale buyers, leaving genuine fans with nothing but error screens and resale listings at inflated prices.

This is no longer an occasional issue—it is becoming the norm.

Ever had this happen to you? Waited for a scheduled pre-order release at 1pm.

Within a minute:

The product was sold out

The website crashed and became unresponsive

I couldn’t complete a purchase

Shortly after, the same products appeared on resale platforms at significantly higher prices.

This experience is becoming increasingly common across the hobby.

Why This Matters

Genuine collectors are being consistently shut out

New collectors are discouraged from joining the hobby

Prices are artificially inflated on the secondary market

Trust in manufacturers and retailers is being eroded

If this continues, the hobby risks becoming inaccessible to the very people who support it.

What We’re Asking For

We call on companies such as , , , and to take meaningful action:

Enforce strict per-customer purchase limits across accounts, addresses, and payment methods

Implement stronger anti-bot protections (queue systems, CAPTCHA, verified accounts)

Monitor and cancel suspicious bulk orders

Improve website stability during high-demand releases

Increase transparency around product allocations

Introduce systems that prioritise genuine collectors

The Goal

This is not about restricting business or targeting specific groups.

This is about restoring fairness, accessibility, and balance to the hobby.

Collectors are the foundation of trading cards. Without fair access, the community cannot grow or thrive.

Take Action

If you’ve ever:

Missed a drop within seconds

Experienced site crashes during releases

Been forced to buy at inflated resale prices

Then you already understand the problem.
