Protect Children Online: Ban or Label Convicted Sex Offenders on Digital Platforms
The Issue
I never thought I’d be pulled into this fight. He seemed like any other face in a crowded feed. But beneath the surface was a truth that shook me to my core: he was a convicted violent sex offender, hidden in plain sight, engaging freely on apps where children and teens spend their time.
That moment changed everything. It exposed a terrifying loophole, how predators can quietly exist on platforms built for connection, entertainment, and expression, without a single warning or visible label. No parent would know. No user would suspect. And that silence puts children at risk.
I’ve made it my mission to demand change. We need legislation that bans all convicted sex offenders from apps accessible to minors, or at the very least, requires clear, permanent labeling of their accounts. This isn’t about revenge. it’s about responsibility, transparency, and protecting those who cannot protect themselves.
If platforms won’t act, then the people must.
We call on Congress to pass legislation that protects minors in digital spaces by:
• Banning all convicted sex offenders from accessing any app, game, or platform that allows users under 18.
OR
• Requiring a permanent warning label on their public profile, visible to all users.
Convicted predators should not be allowed to hide in the same digital communities where children connect, learn, and play. This is a common-sense step toward safeguarding vulnerable users and holding platforms accountable.
If we wouldn’t let a sex offender roam a schoolyard, we shouldn’t let them blend into a social app with 13-year-olds.
Sign now to demand real protections. Our children’s safety should never be optional.
