Protect Children from Domestic Abuse in Immigration-Related False Allegations — Listen to
The Issue
My name is Tara and I’m writing this as a survivor of emotional and psychological abuse. But I’m not just telling my story — I’m speaking out for other children and young people who are hurt, silenced, and ignored when false domestic abuse allegations are used to exploit the immigration system.
When my father married a woman from overseas, we both welcomed her and her adult son into our home. But soon, it became clear she wasn’t here to build a family. She was jealous, controlling, and emotionally abusive — especially towards me.
She insulted me, tried to separate me from my dad, and created a constant atmosphere of fear and tension. Her son was also aggressive. I felt unsafe in my own home. My dad and I were bullied, shouted at, and emotionally manipulated — for almost a full year.
Then she falsely accused my dad of domestic violence. Even though the police cleared him and no real evidence was presented, she and her son were granted visas. We were never allowed to speak. I was never asked how I was treated or what I had seen.
My Story Is Not Unique
Some people use false allegations as a way to gain legal residency. But in doing so, they hurt real families. And people like me — the children caught in the middle — are ignored and forgotten by the system.
What I’m Asking For:
That the Home Office and authorities must listen to everyone in the household, especially children and young adults, during domestic abuse investigations.
That false claims be investigated fully before granting immigration status.
That emotional abuse toward children in these situations be taken seriously.
That victims who are wrongly accused, and their children, are allowed to submit evidence and be heard.
My father was proven innocent. But we still live with the damage caused by being ignored and silenced. I want change — so no one else has to go through this.
Please sign and share this petition if you believe children deserve to be heard and protected too.
