Protect Cedar Falls Neighborhoods from Harmful Industrial Expansion

The Issue

For more than 40 years, families like the Nebbes have cared for their land in Cedar Falls—restoring natural habitats, supporting wildlife, and opening their space to the community for education and conservation. Now, that legacy is at risk.

A proposed rezoning would allow a large-scale crypto mining operation and power plant to be built near established homes and restored natural areas. Residents have raised serious concerns about noise pollution, environmental impact, water and energy use, and declining property values. Just as troubling, many feel they were not given clear, timely information about what this project would mean for their daily lives.

This is not about opposing progress. It’s about making sure growth in Cedar Falls is responsible, transparent, and respects the people who already live here.

Supporters of the project point to potential economic benefits and infrastructure improvements. Those deserve consideration. But so do the voices of residents who will live next door to constant industrial activity—who worry about the long-term effects on their homes, their land, and their peace of mind.

We are calling on the Cedar Falls Planning and Zoning Commission, the Cedar Falls City Council, and Cedar Falls Utilities to pause this rezoning effort until a full, independent assessment of environmental impacts, noise levels, and property value effects is completed—and shared clearly with the public.

Cedar Falls has always been a community that values both innovation and quality of life. We believe those goals can coexist—but only if decisions are made with care, transparency, and genuine community input.

Residents, families, and future generations deserve thoughtful planning—not rushed approvals.

Sign this petition to stand for responsible development that protects Cedar Falls’ neighborhoods, natural spaces, and community trust.
