Protect BTS and Kpop Idols in the military

The Issue

The South Koean government have allowed exemptions to athletes, classical musicians, and dancers that bring cultural awareness and national prestige to South Korea. Kpop has yet to be add to that list. We call upon the South Korean government to revise that list to include Kpop or create reform that will ensure their enlistment is safe and fair.

It is a documented fact there is abuse, harassment and abuse of power in the military. It is also known that idols are experiencing trauma from their experiences in the shower, while also having an extremely high rate of suicides. Adequate measures have yet to be made to safeguard  idols from this abuse.

We call on the South Korean government to create reform that ensures the safety of Kpop idols during military enlistment and to acknowledge them as artists deserving these reforms. By not doing so, we as a global fan base will protest  this government and keep speaking out about the mistreatment of Kpop idols until reform is made.

We are asking for:

  • Safe and fair enlistment for all Kpop idols.
  • Zero tolerance policy for harassment,  abuse, and abuse of power resulting in harsh punishment for anyone who does not comply.
  • Strict policy for no cameras or recording devices in showers, bathrooms or barracks.  Have a designated area for those devices.
  • Mental health counseling.
  • No tolerance policy for those who leak or post personal information about idols during enlistment. With harsh punishment for those who do not comply.
  • For idols who bring national prestige to South Korea, we ask for reduced enlistment time. By serving in the military at the peak of their career, damage is done to that career. The good they brought to South Korea is diminished and at risk of being lost.

It is time the South Korean government recognizes Kpop and other idols as humans and not profit. Kpop is now a global sensation with fan bases around the world. The government needs to take Kpop seriously and stop saying it is not an art. As a global fan base we demand you recognize Kpop as an art that deserves reform , that allows them to have a fair and safe enlistment.

BTS alone have 40 million fans who are called Army. That is not including the millions of other Kpop fans around the world. This is one time all fan bases need to come together to protect our idols. The more signatures on this petition the louder our voices become.  Leave comments explaining why you signed. It is time to speak out and be heard. It is time to protest a government that misuses their idols for gain and profit. It is time to protect our idols.
