Protect Brownsburg’s Animal Sanctuary—Say No to Hawks Landing
The Issue
For years, Oinking Acres Farm and Sanctuary in Brownsburg, Indiana, has been a peaceful haven for dozens of animals—many of them disabled, elderly, or traumatized. These animals aren’t just residents; they are survivors who rely on the quiet, stable environment provided by the sanctuary’s founder, Olivia Head.
Now, that peace is under threat.
A proposed development called Hawks Landing would place over 100 new homes directly next to the sanctuary along East County Road 800 North. If approved, this development would bring a wave of construction, traffic, noise, and disruption—all just feet away from some of the most vulnerable animals in our community. These creatures can’t just “adjust” to the stress. For many of them, it could mean the loss of the only home where they’ve ever felt safe.
And it’s not just the animals who are at risk.
Neighbors in the Windridge community have voiced serious safety concerns about increased traffic, especially the likelihood that County Road 267 traffic will begin cutting through quiet neighborhoods. The town’s own Development Services team even noted the removal of a proposed pedestrian bridge from the plan—raising more questions about how infrastructure and walkability are being addressed.
This isn’t about stopping growth. It’s about demanding responsible, compassionate planning that puts public safety and animal welfare before developer profits.
We call on the Brownsburg Advisory Plan Commission to reject or significantly revise the Hawks Landing primary plat before the public hearing on Monday, October 27. A peaceful animal sanctuary, traffic safety, and the integrity of our neighborhoods are too high a price to pay for poorly planned expansion.
Sign to stop Hawks Landing.
