The Issue

BC HYDRO: It's time for HONEST, TRANSPARENT Public Engagement in Brackendale

BC Hydro and Woodfibre LNG are proposing to build an additional 19-kilometre, 138-kilovolt overhead power line from Cheekye Substation through Brackendale—within the existing right-of-way, but potentially on the east side, running directly through approx 40 residential properties.

This expansion may involve tree removal, construction access, structure impacts, and right-of-way clearing up to 30 metres, with significant disruption to homes and neighbourhoods.

Many key details remain unclear, including exact property impacts, construction methods, and long-term environmental and health effects.

A public session is planned for March 31, 2026, but the current open house format limits transparency and meaningful dialogue.

We are calling for:

A formal public presentation of the full project
Clear, detailed plans and timelines
An open Q&A session where all residents hear the same information
Our community deserves clear answers and a transparent process.

Sign on to support open, accountable public engagement—and let us know if you have any specific questions/comments/concerns.

If you’d like to be added to our mailing list for updates and neighbourhood meetings around this proposed project please email the Brackendale Owners and Tenants Association (BOATA) boata@gmail.com

Please attend the Town Hall with BC Hydro and WLNG on March 31 at the Executive Suites Hotel and Resort, Squamish.
The open house is from 4pm to 7pm, and we are asking people to arrive at 5:00pm to force a townhall-style Q&A at 6pm
Donations not necessary, we are looking for community support and engagement at this time.
