Protect Aravali Hills Beyond Height-Based Definition

Protect Aravali Hills Beyond Height-Based Definition
The Issue
Aravali is crucial for groundwater and climate balance.
Height-based rules ignore geological reality.
We request strict protection of the entire Aravali range.
Aravali Hills are not just a chain of mountains — they are the lifeline of Rajasthan and North India.
Stretching across Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi and Gujarat, the Aravali range plays a critical role in groundwater recharge, climate regulation, biodiversity protection and in preventing the expansion of the Thar Desert.
Aravali is one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world. Due to millions of years of natural erosion, a large portion of this range has become low-lying and gently undulating. This geological reality does not make these areas any less important or any less “Aravali.”
Nature cannot be defined only by height measurements.
Recent interpretations that exclude hill formations below a certain height threshold risk removing legal protection from a vast portion of the Aravali ecosystem. Such an approach ignores scientific, ecological and geological facts and opens the door for large-scale mining, construction and deforestation in ecologically sensitive zones.
The consequences of weakening Aravali protection will be severe and irreversible:
Rapid depletion of groundwater levels
Increased desertification in Rajasthan
Loss of forests and wildlife habitats
Rise in extreme temperatures and dust storms
Long-term damage to agriculture and rural livelihoods
Aravali acts as a natural barrier against desert expansion and supports rainfall patterns and water retention across the region. Destroying or fragmenting this ecosystem in the name of development will create environmental damage that no economic gain can justify.
We, the citizens of India, strongly believe that development and environmental protection must go hand in hand. Short-term commercial interests should never outweigh long-term ecological security and the rights of future generations.
Our Demands:
1. Full ecological protection of the entire Aravali range, regardless of height-based classifications
2. Recognition of Aravali as a continuous geological and ecological system
3. Strict control and monitoring of mining and construction activities
4. Implementation of sustainable, science-based conservation policies
5. Transparent environmental impact assessments for all projects in Aravali regions
This petition is not against development — it is for responsible and sustainable development.
Saving the Aravali today is essential to secure water, climate stability and environmental balance for tomorrow.
Protect Aravali. Protect Rajasthan. Protect India’s future
