Protect American Families from War-Driven Gas Price Spikes

The Issue

Gas prices in the United States jumped 11 cents overnight as war engulfed the Middle East. Oil markets surged. Tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz — a key global energy chokepoint — has been disrupted. Families are already feeling the impact at the pump.

The average price of a gallon of gas now sits above $3 nationally, with some stations nearing $4. Small business owners, delivery drivers, construction crews, commuters, and working parents are bracing for more increases. Higher fuel costs ripple outward — raising grocery bills, shipping costs, airline fares, and nearly every household expense.

This conflict may last weeks, or longer. Yet American families have not received clear answers about how rising energy costs will be managed or mitigated.

We call on President Donald Trump and the U.S. Department of Energy to present a clear plan to stabilize domestic fuel prices during this conflict. That includes outlining whether the Strategic Petroleum Reserve will be used, what steps are being taken to protect shipping lanes, and how the administration will prevent price gouging.

We also urge Congress to hold immediate hearings on the economic impact of the war, including its effect on inflation, supply chains, and small businesses.

National security decisions carry economic consequences. American families should not be left in the dark — or left paying the price without a plan.

This is not about partisanship. It is about stability. It is about protecting working people from sudden shocks tied to global conflict.

If war is expected to continue, Americans deserve transparency about its financial impact — and decisive action to cushion households from further strain.

Energy stability matters. Economic clarity matters. American families matter.
