Petition Closed

Last year we lost $5 million dollars in funding for this year and next year.
These funds were to be used to repair and maintain the parks buildings and equipment.
So far we have managed to postpone or delay major projects until we again will receive these funds.
The state budget for next year, House Bill 433, was passed last week by the Alabama House of Representatives. In this bill two million dollars of the tobacco tax that we have been receiving is being sent to the general fund. This is almost all the funds that we receive, other than visitor fees. This loss of funds will cause Alabama State Parks to close or partially close some facilities. We cannot absorb this loss of funding and maintain the same level of current operations. We hope that this transfer of funds will not be included in the final budget that is passed by the Senate.
I ask all of you to contact your local legislators and ask them not to cut the Parks Division's tobacco tax funds.
