The Issue

On Friday, June 24th, 2022, the United States Supreme Court, in a 5-4 majority opinion, voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. The overturning of Roe v. Wade eliminates the constitutional protection of abortion in this country.

Without Roe v. Wade, the current situation in West Virginia is grim for individuals seeking abortions as the state's Constitution contains a specific exclusion of abortion rights.

"Nothing in this Constitution secures or protects a right to abortion or requires the funding of abortion."

We must bring it to our state's attention that our Constitution requires amending. If this petition collects enough signatures, I will bring it to the attention of a local House delegate. Along with requesting they propose an amendment to the state Constitution; I will submit a proposal for a new bill to ensure abortion is accessible in this state. The initial rights may be limited; however, any bill protecting abortion in this state would be a step in the right direction.

In addition to signing this petition, I urge individuals to contact any state politicans they can and request this change.
