In western Wyoming, Dr. Giovannina Anthony runs one of just three clinics in the state offering abortion care. She has spent four years fighting in court to keep that care available, and legislators keep coming back with new restrictions.

Wyoming's state constitution protects the right to make your own healthcare decisions. Courts have used that protection to block abortion bans since Roe v. Wade fell in 2022. But state lawmakers are not stopping. They have passed requirements for mandatory ultrasounds before abortion care and a ban on one of the pills used in medication abortion. Both are still being challenged in court. The outcome is not guaranteed.

And the threats are not just local. Federal officials are weighing whether a 19th-century law could be used to block abortion pills nationwide, including the telehealth access that has helped thousands of patients in states like Wyoming.

"They do not want the government in their doctor's office," Dr. Anthony said of her patients. "And so I think we will prevail. But it won't be without a fight."
