International Wrongful Conviction Day was earlier this month on October 2nd. Unfortunately, for those trapped in the unending nightmare of a wrongful conviction, Wrongful Conviction Day becomes every, single day of their lives. Recently, my husband's state and prison system became the subjects of national news headlines. Many have joined the Alabama Department of Corrections inmates in protesting the draconian conditions to which they are subjected. For Leonard Coleman, those conditions have been his reality - the way he wakes up and the way he goes to sleep - for over a decade. This for a crime another man actually confessed to committing.
According to The National Registry of Exonerations, there have been 3,249 exonerations since 1989, resulting in more than 27,200 years lost. Leonard has lost every day of his life since his wrongful conviction on January 5, 2012. There is still time to make a difference in his life and to help hold the right party accountable for taking a precious mother's life. On October 3rd, 2022, Judge Jay A. York ordered that Mobile County must determine if the actual perpetrator's fingerprints are on file in the database. If so, they must be compared with all latent prints at the crime scene and all of this must be done on or before Friday, October 28th.
Please take a moment to share this petition, petition local and national media outlets to cover the outrageous manner in which Mobile County, Alabama handled Leonard's case, and to call/write to Assistant DA Chris McDonough regarding why you believe Leonard Coleman deserves to be exonerated.
Until freedom, Mrs. Leonard Coleman
