Proscribe NOW: Protect the UK from all Islamic Republic–Backed Terror Networks
The Issue
The Issue
My father, Anoosheh Ashoori, was imprisoned by the Islamic Republic of Iran for nearly five years. He was released alongside Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe in 2022 after sustained international pressure.
I’ve seen first-hand what this regime is capable of. Now, that threat is no longer distant.
Since the Iran war, four ambulances serving in Golders Green, London were set on fire in a suspected arson attack. Counter-terror police are investigating possible links to an Islamic Republic-aligned group.
The threat of terror is not just happening somewhere “over there” anymore. It is happening here in the UK too.
Why This Matters
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is not just a military force. It is a transnational network that uses proxies, intimidation, and violence — including here in Europe — to achieve its aims. And yet, the UK Government still refuses to proscribe it as a terrorist organisation despite evidence it needs to:
Escalation is already visible: The Golders Green attack is a stark example of how these threats can materialise, targeting not just property, but lives and communities.
Exploitation of UK institutions: Networks linked to the Islamic Republic have been accused of using institutions in the UK to spread propaganda and influence, particularly targeting young people.
Threats on British soil: Security services have identified more than 20 Islamic Republic-linked plots in the UK. Communities, dissidents, and institutions are being targeted.
The UK is falling behind: The European Union has already designated the IRGC as a terrorist organisation. The UK is now a dangerous outlier.
Government delay: Parliament has shown support, yet the Government continues to delay action under “review.”
The longer we wait, the greater the risk to the lives of UK citizens.
Escalating risk: As international tensions intensify, the threat is evolving. Recent arrests in the UK suggest networks linked to the Islamic Republic are becoming more active and more emboldened.
We Demand
- Immediate proscription of the IRGC under the Terrorism Act 2000
- Freezing of all UK-based assets linked to the IRGC and its affiliates
- Closure of institutions in the UK acting as recruitment or propaganda hubs
The Reality
By failing to act, the UK is:
- Allowing a known threat to operate in a legal grey area
- Falling behind its allies
- Putting people in Britain at risk
- This is no longer a distant issue. This is a UK security issue.
Our allies have acted. The threat is visible. The Government has been warned. So why hasn’t the UK acted?
The time to act is now. If you agree, please sign my petition calling on the UK Government to protect the UK from Islamic Republic–backed terror networks and proscribe the IRGC NOW.
