Actualización de la peticiónProposed high voltage line through private properties and communitiesMeeting with Taseko did not offer any resolutions

The two "open house" meeting with Taseko Mining did not offer anything in the way of resolutions.

Taseko held a very basic and vague informational "presentation" with printed up poster boards with vague information about the mine and the transmission line.
Their representatives were friendly, courteous, appeared to be sympathetic, but offered just vague, corporate answers that never answered anything.
They keep saying that they are in the planning stages and are listening to all concerns, but have already stated that different routes, further away from communities were too expensive and not feasible. The issue is that when they do finalize a plan, we won't be able to change it.

Even though the people are nice, they still work for a corporation that is focused on profit and keeping costs down.

Recently there was an article about BC Hydro suing a generational ranch because they were blocking access to power lines for an upgrade. The reason they were blocking access is because BC Hydro farmed out the work to contractors that cut fences, left gates open and lead to the death of several livestock with their careless actions.

This can easily be the same scenario here. Taseko will want to do this as cheaply as possible and who knows if the contractor that is awarded the job will actually stick to the "promises" that Taseko gives us, or will respect out rangelands.

There is a solution that can appeal to everyone. We need to convince BC Hydro to relocate the interconnect point from 100 Mile to the Mica Creek route. The path from there avoids private properties and communities. It is the least impactful solution.

This can be done politically. We need to ask our MLA Lorne Doerkson to bring this to government and put pressure on BC Hydro.

BC Hydro will have to upgrade the feed into the North Thompson corridor to accommodate the power needs of the mine, of the pipeline, and of the communities that will need to expand to provide temporary and full time workers of the mine. The best alternative is either Mica Creek or upgrading the current line that is already in place.
Please write to our MLA Lorne Doerkson to push for this.
This project is happening in the Thompson Okanagan, it does not benefit the Cariboo in any way and this power line will not benefit us either. Let them power it from their grid. Do not ruin our forests and backyards over this, there is no benefit.
