Propose an Alternative Vehicle Size-Based Car Tax Plan

The Issue

As a part of a low-income family in the UK, navigating the financial constraints of daily life is a challenge. The challenge extends to transport, specifically owning and maintaining a car, an essential for facilitating our special needs children's lifestyle. The recent Pay-Per-Mile system proposal aggravates the financial burden on families like ours. This system, far from being an affordable alternative, breaches public privacy and becomes yet another obstacle for struggling families, adding to their expenses simply for using their own transportation.

The proposal is to shift to a Vehicle Size Class or Vehicle Horsepower System for Car Tax, ensuring road users pay a tax proportionate to the size of their vehicle or power output of their vehicle. Such a system is logical, fairer, and uses the existing infrastructure, mitigating additional implementation costs. Developed economies like Australia and Japan have successfully implemented this format of vehicle taxation, ensuring fairness and economic efficiency (source: Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, "Tax and Economic Growth").

Regardless of who you voted for in the General Election we need a system addresses the concerns of lower-income families and finding solutions to the damage of years of Conservative governance. Therefore, we call on our representatives to reconsider the Pay-Per-Mile system and propose an alternative, more sustainable Vehicle Centric Tax Plan. Please sign our petition to help make this urgent change - for the sake of families like ours, and many others across the UK.
